A suspect is at large after firing multiple shots at a vehicle at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6 on I-270 near the 26-mile marker, according to Maryland State Police.
The victim - whose name or age has not been released - was driving a dark blue Jeep Wrangler at the time of the incident when a driver pulled up behind her and began flashing high beams.
It is alleged that the second driver then pulled up next to the woman, brandished a gun, and fired multiple shots into her car, striking her once in the leg. The suspect then sped away.
Investigators said that they do not have a vehicle or suspect description.
The woman was transported by a state police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore to receive treatment for the injuries sustained in the incident.
Her condition was not immediately available on Monday, Nov. 7.
Troopers investigating the shooting said that the initial canvas of the area determined that multiple gunshots were fired into the Jeep.
The incident - which led to lengthy lane closures on I-270 between Exit 22 (MD 109) and Exit 26 (MD 80) - remains under investigation.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting has been asked to contact Maryland State Police at the Frederick Barrack by calling (301) 600-4150.
